DOCdata UK Ltd offer Macrovision CDS copy protection London, England, 23 April 2004: Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq: MVSN), the leading provider of digital rights management and copy protection technologies, today announced that it has reached an agreement with the DOCdata UK, the UKÕs largest independent replicator, enabling the company to offer MacrovisionÕs CDS suite of copy protection technology direct to customers. DOCdata UK specialises in providing replication services to the music industry, although its client base includes an increasing proportion of business and education organisations. In taking on board the reselling of MacrovisionÕs audio copy protection it is responding to customer demand. Managing Director Steve Toms observed: ÒCopy protection has become a huge issue in the last two years as the UK industry wakes up to its importance. ItÕs quite simple, if we donÕt find ways of protecting the product, illegal copying will put a lot of businesses and a lot of individuals out of work.Ó The CDS system chosen by DOCdata UK provides maximum effectiveness in inhibiting disc burning while still maintaining optimum playability. The latest in the range, CDS-300 was launched in January 2004, offering further increased functionality and more flexible usage rights enabling users to export to portable devices, PC playback via Windows Media Player and providing one-click access to bonus content on the disc or premium content via web links. ÒMacrovision is such a clear market leader that there was no decision to makeÓ is how Steve Toms describes the choice of supplier. ÒBeing able to provide copy protection and replication as a Òone-stopÓ service gives us a clear advantage in a competitive industry, and the Macrovision name is a great reassurance of quality for our customers.Ó ÒMacrovision is delighted to welcome DOCdata UK to the growing number of companies who are striving to protect the rights of content owners. The illegal duplication of digital entertainment products is theft and needs to be countered by a concerted strategy between rights owners, replicators and the lawÓ said Martin Brooker, Director of Sales for Macrovision EMEA.
